The Aluminum Microtruss structure is blast proficient in design and can be used as stand alone blast panel for vehicle under carriage, doors, engine bay, and vehicle compartment. As a composite armor the aluminum structure is infused to hold in each Microtruss “cell” ballistic polymer and suspended metal ceramic matrix material and can withstand multihit threats because the individual cells defeat threats without inhibiting the performance of the other cells in the panel.

BLAST. The 50CAL Solution can withstand blast up to 250lbs. of C4 at a 30yd, standoff with no penetrations or secondary fragmentation.  The material can be applied to any substrate. As Overhead Threat Protection the material has been designed to withstand 60mm and 81mm mortar, RPG7 [with an RFP fence at a 2ft. standoff].

BALLISTICS. 14.5 multi-hit, 12.7 multi-hit, 7.62x51AP multi-hit, 7.62X54R API multi-hit, 5.56 AP multi-hit.

As a ballistic solution the 50CAL Solution has been tested as a 12”x12” plate against 12.7 AP, 7.62x51 AP, 7.62x54R API, 5.56 AP, all lesser calibers and passed all multi hit tests in both single shot and 9 shot burst test.

All blast testing was conducted at New Mexico Tech in 2004 on component chemistry parts of the system. The blast test was conducted against a 250lb. Anfo and C4 combination with a TNT igniter at 30yds. and was completed successfully by Stuart Smith [Patent] SuperSkinSystems.

Some blast testing was conducted by U.S. Army TACOM in 2010 on the base structural material Microtruss by CMI. That test was conducted against 16lbs. of C4 at a 11in. distance under carriage.  CMI developed a blast armor capable of defeating high level blast events at less than half the density of RHA. The armor reduces vertical lift with under belly blasts by 30%+. This is baed on our base structure Microtruss aluminum.

All ballistic testing was conducted in a similar format of official certification testing under private testing conditions. The armor was tested in field conditions using “fair” hit tests and “field” condition test methods.  Both methods produced successful results.
